Section 17

Also: Section 17 (Gambling Act 2005)

The section of the Gambling Act 2005 that requires every remote operator serving Britain to hold a UKGC licence — regardless of where it is headquartered.

In detail

Read with the Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Act 2014, Section 17 establishes the point-of-consumption regime: a UKGC licence is required if even one piece of remote gambling equipment is used by, or aimed at, customers in Great Britain. Before 2014, operators could serve UK players from white-listed jurisdictions like Gibraltar without UKGC oversight.
