Affordability check

A frictionless or documented review of whether a player can sustainably afford their gambling activity — used by UKGC operators as part of customer interaction.

In detail

Two layers exist. Light-touch frictionless checks use publicly available data (electoral roll, county court judgements) and are intended to be invisible. Enhanced checks request bank statements or payslips and trigger at higher loss thresholds. From August 2024 the UKGC began piloting financial-vulnerability checks at £150 net loss in 30 days (frictionless) and enhanced checks at £500 net loss in 30 days.
